Bambusa chungii, also known as white bamboo or tropical blue bamboo, is a large and tall species of bamboo that is commonly found in Hong Kong. It originates from southern China and Vietnam and can reach a height of 10 meters. This bamboo species has blue-green or white culms and its grove can spread up to 3 meters when mature. It usually grows in a humid, half-sunlight environment and can coexist with trees. The culms of B. chungii are covered in a natural white powder that makes them waterproof. This bamboo belongs to the clumping type, which means it is non-invasive and forms discrete clumps with short roots. The culms of B. chungii grow closely together, providing privacy and shade. The growth rate of this species varies depending on environmental factors. It has been successfully grown in Central Florida, some areas of California, and Hawaii.
