Juncus digitatus, also known as finger rush, is a rare plant species found only in Shasta County, California. It grows in spring-moist areas, such as vernal pools, in the foothills of the southernmost Cascade Range. The plant was first discovered in 1991 and officially described as a new species in 2008. It is an annual herb with thin, red stems and small leaves at the base. Its inflorescence consists of up to 8 flowers with reddish to purplish tepals. The plant is closely related to another species, Juncus triformis, and both populations are threatened due to habitat loss from agriculture and water diversion. The other population may also be impacted by mining activities.
