Scirpus diffusus, also known as umbrella bulrush, is a flowering plant found only in California. It can be found in various high mountain ranges and wetland habitats. This plant is similar to another species, Scirpus congdonii, and was initially misidentified as such. It is a perennial herb with tall, erect stems and sheathing leaves. The inflorescence, or flower cluster, is located at the top of the stem and may also occur along the stem. It consists of multiple clusters of spikelets wrapped in leaf-like bracts.
