It is a perennial herb with a creeping rhizome and a culm up to 1 m tall. The leaves are up to 40 cm long and 2–3 mm wide. The inflorescence is a compound umbel with up to 20 rays and up to 30 spikelets. The spikelets are up to 4 mm long and have 3–5 flowers.
Cyperus ankaratrensis is a species of sedge that is endemic to central Madagascar. It is a perennial herb with a creeping rhizome and a culm up to 1 m tall.
