Carex rosea, also known as the rosy sedge, is a flowering plant belonging to the family Cyperaceae. It is native to central and eastern North America and can be found in a variety of habitats, from wet to dry soils. This evergreen plant is known for its adaptability to dry-shade locations and is easy to grow. It produces distinctively curled styles and has a range of other distinguishing features, such as its green spikelets and one-seeded fruit. Carex rosea is often confused with other species, but recent analysis has shown that hybridization does not occur. It is commonly used as a ground cover and is resistant to deer and other herbivores. This plant is not considered threatened and is widely distributed throughout its range.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Alternate between 4°C and 20°C for 3 months each, over several cycles, with an extended germination period. |
Requires Soaking: These seeds need to be soaked in warm water until they swell, which can take 24-48 hours. Seeds that float are usually not viable and should be discarded, along with the soaking water. |
Pulpy Coat Inhibits Germination: Seeds with a pulpy or fleshy outer coat need to have this material removed by soaking and rinsing in clean water daily for about a week. The inhibitory substances in the pulp are thus washed away, and germination rates improve. |
