Carex mariposana, also known as Mariposa sedge, is a species of sedge that can be found in the Sierra Nevada region of California and western Nevada. It typically grows in moist areas, such as meadows, and can reach a maximum height of 90 centimeters. The plant produces dense clumps of stems and narrow leaves, with an inflorescence of gold, brown, or reddish spikes. Its fruit is covered with a sac called a perigynium, which is usually greenish or coppery brown and veined. This sedge is an important part of the ecosystem in its native habitat.
