Carex hostiana, also known as the tawny sedge, is a flowering plant that is native to Europe and northeast Canada. It belongs to the Carex flava species complex and is a rhizomatous perennial with a tufted habit. Its leaves are linear in shape and can reach up to 14 cm in length. The inflorescences are found at the tip of the culm and are in the form of spikes. This species was first described in 1813 and has several synonyms. It is found in various countries in Europe and in Canada, but is now extinct in Massachusetts.
