Carex garberi, also known as elk sedge or Garber's sedge, is a species of sedge native to North America. It can be found throughout Canada and Alaska, as well as at higher elevations in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. This sedge typically grows in loose clumps, reaching heights of up to 40-70 centimeters. Its leaves are narrow and can vary in height. The plant produces inflorescences at the tips and sides of its stems, with the lateral ones containing female flowers and the terminal ones containing both male and female flowers. The flowers are covered in brown scales with a pale stripe. Carex garberi is commonly found in wet areas such as swamps and meadows, and is particularly abundant around the Great Lakes.
