Carex catharinensis is a type of perennial sedge found in eastern parts of South America. It forms dense tufts with short rhizomes and triangular stems with a rough texture. The leaves can be flat or corrugated. This species was first described by botanist Johann Otto Boeckeler in 1896 and has one synonym. It is typically found in subtropical regions of Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina.
