Portea kermesina, also known as the crimson bromeliad, is a plant species found in the Portea genus and the bromeliad family. It is native to the Atlantic Forest biome and Bahia state in southeastern Brazil, where it grows near rivers at sea level. This species is critically endangered due to habitat loss and other threats. It has broad green and red leaves that can reach up to 750mm in length and 50mm in width. The plant produces a flower spike with large, rose-colored bracts and blue-petaled flowers, blooming at a height of 150-200mm. Portea kermesina is highly prized for its decorative qualities, with its apple green leaves and preference for diffused light.
