Oxalis hedysaroides, also known as the fire fern, is a flowering perennial plant found in Colombia and Ecuador. Despite its name, it is not a fern but a member of the woodsorrel genus. It grows up to 30cm tall and 10cm wide, and its leaves start off green but turn deep purple red when exposed to sunlight. The plant is known for its ability to move and rotate its foliage to follow the sun, and at dusk, its leaves partially close by folding in half. The fire fern has wiry purple stems that support its foliage and produces small yellow flowers when in bloom.
