Nymphaea violacea, also known as blue lily, is a waterlily found in Australia, specifically in the Western Australian Kimberley region and parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory. Its flowers can range in color from violet to blue or white. This plant has been traditionally used as a food source by Aboriginal people in northern Australia, with all parts of the plant being edible. However, it also contains the psychoactive alkaloid aporphine, which can have sedative effects when consumed. Nymphaea violacea belongs to the genus Nymphaea, which includes other waterlily species.
