Nymphaea lukei is a unique species of waterlily found only in Western Australia. It is an annual or perennial plant with round rhizomes and elliptic leaves. The flowers are fragrant and can reach up to 30 cm above the water surface. The plant reproduces through flowering, which occurs towards the end of the wet season and continues into the dry season. It was first described in 2011 by Surrey Wilfrid Laurance Jacobs and Carl Barre Hellquist, and the type specimen was collected in Dampier, Western Australia. Nymphaea lukei is placed in the subgenus Confluentes and its specific epithet is named after Luke Jaden Fussell. This species can be found in pools, creeks, and rivers in its natural habitat.
