Syzygium floribundum, also known as Waterhousea floribunda, is a rainforest tree native to eastern Australia. It can be found growing along streams from New South Wales to central Queensland. This tree, commonly called the weeping lilli pilli, is a popular ornamental plant and has been planted in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney since 1827. However, these trees are currently facing threats from roosting grey headed flying foxes. The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall with a grey trunk and wavy-edged leaves. It produces white flowers and pale pink or green berries, which can be used for seed germination. The weeping lilly pilly is a popular choice for ornamental use due to its unique foliage. There is also a cultivar, Syzygium floribundum 'Sweeper', with a weeping habit and lush green leaves. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate light frosts and is a beautiful addition to any landscape.
