Melaleuca capitata is a shrub that belongs to the myrtle family and is only found in New South Wales. It has scaly bark and dense foliage, and produces attractive creamy-yellow flowers in the summer. The plant can grow up to 2 meters tall and has narrow elliptical leaves with a sharp point. Its flowers are cream-colored and arranged in a head at the end of branches, with each head containing 3 to 15 flowers. The plant also produces woody capsules as fruit. Melaleuca capitata was first described in 1924 and its name comes from the Latin word for "head", referring to the shape of its inflorescence. It is found in heath and dry sclerophyll forest on sandstone in New South Wales and can adapt to various soil and water conditions when grown in horticulture.
