Melaleuca arcana is a small tree or large shrub found in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, and is native to Cape York Peninsula in northern Australia. It has papery bark and produces small white flowers in the summer. The plant can grow up to 15 meters tall and has leaves that are arranged alternately. Its flowers are arranged in heads on the ends of branches and contain 5-11 groups of flowers. The species was first described in 1968 and its name, arcana, means "secret" or "mysterious" in Latin. It is found in the swales between sand dunes on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula and is not considered to be at risk. Melaleuca arcana has various uses, including sand stabilization, honey production, and as a source of timber. It is also used in horticulture as a street tree due to its smaller size at maturity.
