Homoranthus cernuus is a unique flowering plant that belongs to the Myrtaceae family and is found only in a small area within the Wollemi National Park. It is a slender shrub with smooth, linear leaves and pairs of pendulous cream-colored flowers with a pinkish base. The plant has an upright growth habit and reaches a height of 30-60 cm. Its flowers, which bloom sporadically throughout the year, have a cylindrical shape and are surrounded by thin, dry bracts. This species is closely related to H. darwinoides but can be distinguished by its longer leaves and larger flowers. Homoranthus cernuus was first described in 1889 and has since been classified as a rare species, with a restricted distribution and a conservation status of 2RCa. It is primarily found in shallow sandy soils in the Wollemi National Park, growing in dry open forests on steep rocky terrain.
