Darwinia sanguinea is a small, sprawling shrub with reddish purple flowers that is native to the south-west region of Western Australia. It typically grows to a height of 5-20 cm and can be found on hills and sandplains in the Geraldton Sandplains and Swan Coastal Plain bioregions. This species was first described in 1857 and was later renamed by George Bentham in 1865. Its name, sanguinea, refers to the blood-like color of its flowers. This plant is most commonly seen between August and December and is found in sandy soils over laterite.
