Rotala malabarica, also known as the Malabar rotala, is a short-lived annual plant found only in southern India. It is considered critically endangered and may even be extinct. This species is only known to exist in a small area of about 10 square kilometers in the Kannur District of Kerala, where it was first described in 1990. It is typically found in seasonal pools with a lot of humus, and its habitat is threatened by lateritic mining and herbicide use in nearby cashew plantations. Despite efforts to locate it, the Malabar rotala has not been seen in its original location since its discovery.
