Lythrum hyssopifolia, also known as hyssop loosestrife or grass-poly, is a flowering plant in the loosestrife family. It is native to Europe but has been introduced to other parts of the world, including Australia and North America, where it is sometimes considered a weed. It is a rare species in the United Kingdom, with only a few isolated populations. This plant typically grows in moist environments such as marshes, wet fields, and rice paddies. It is an annual or biennial herb that can reach heights of 10 to 60 centimeters. The leaves are oval-shaped and arranged oppositely on the lower part of the plant, becoming alternate towards the top. The flowers are pink and form a spike at the top of the plant, with small oval capsules containing numerous tiny seeds. The name of this plant comes from the Latin word for hyssop-leafed, due to its resemblance to the hyssop plant.
