Pimelea sanguinea is a unique flowering plant found only in northern Australia. It is a small herb with long, narrow leaves and clusters of red flowers surrounded by green or reddish bracts. It grows up to 30 cm tall and blooms from February to August. This plant was first described in 1859 and its name, sanguinea, means "blood red". It can be found in sandy or clay soils, often in woodlands or near wetlands, in various regions of northern Western Australia, Northern Territory, and northern Queensland.
