Rhodolaena bakeriana is a medium-sized tree that belongs to the Sarcolaenaceae family and is native to Madagascar. Its twigs are covered in hair and it has small to medium-sized leaves with an obovate, elliptic, or oblong shape. The tree produces large, purple-red flowers with five sepals and petals, and its fruits are woody and medium-sized. These fruits are often dispersed by lemurs. The species is named after the English botanist John Gilbert Baker. It is only found in certain regions of Madagascar, specifically in humid to subhumid evergreen forests at altitudes between 600-1,600 meters. The tree is threatened by timber exploitation and habitat loss due to agricultural clearing.
