Triplochiton scleroxylon, also known as African whitewood, abachi, obeche, wawa, ayous, and sambawawa, is a tree belonging to the Malvaceae family. It is native to West and Central Africa and is the official state tree of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The timber produced by this tree is pale yellow in color and is commonly used in the production of veneer, furniture, picture frames, and mouldings. It is also a popular choice for guitar makers, with Gibson and Fender Japan using it for limited edition guitars. The tree is also important for its role as a host for the African silk moth, whose caterpillars feed on its leaves and produce silk cocoons. While the tree is being overexploited in some areas, it is still considered of "least concern" on the IUCN Red List.
