Malva neglecta, also known as common mallow, is an annual plant that can grow up to 0.6 meters tall. It is also referred to as buttonweed, cheeseplant, cheeseweed, dwarf mallow, and roundleaf mallow. This plant is commonly consumed as food, with its leaves, stalks, and seeds all being edible. The seeds, in particular, are high in protein and fat. This plant is native to various regions, including the Palearctic, Macaronesia, Northern Africa, Arabian Peninsula, Western Asia, Caucasus, Soviet Middle Asia, Mongolia, China, Indian Subcontinent, Northern Europe, Middle Europe, Southeastern Europe, Southwestern Europe. The leaves and young seeds can be eaten raw or cooked, while mature seeds should be cooked like rice or grains.
