Viola tripartita, also known as threepart violet, is a small perennial herb native to Eastern North America. It is mainly found in the Southern Appalachian Mountains and prefers to grow in rich, mesic forests over calcareous rocks. This species is characterized by its yellow flowers that bloom in the spring and its distinctive leaves, which are wider than long and have a cuneate base. It can be distinguished from other yellow violets in the area by these leaf characteristics.
