Viola ocellata, also known as pinto violet, two-eyed violet, and western heart's ease, is a species of violet native to southern Oregon and northern and central California. It can be found in coastal foothills and mountain ranges, and is sometimes found in serpentine soils and quicksilver mines. This rhizomatous herb has heart-shaped or lance-shaped leaves and produces a solitary flower with five white petals, three of which have purple veins and two with purple eyespots. The flower also has long hairs on the inside and is often stained with dark red or purple on the outer surfaces. The plant produces spherical capsules and its seeds are brownish-purple in color. It is a host plant for the butterfly Boloria epithore.
