Salix bonplandiana, also known as Bonpland willow, is a type of perennial willow tree native to southern and southwest Mexico, as well as central Guatemala. It can also be found in small areas in Baja California Sur, northern Sonora, and San Luis Potosi. This tree is typically found in higher elevations and near water sources. It has a disjunct range in central and southeast Arizona, including the Madrean Sky Islands region. Interestingly, its range is very similar to another species of willow, Salix taxifolia, with both trees having identical ranges in Mexico and Arizona. However, S. taxifolia also occurs in minor locales in the Sierra Madre Oriental cordillera, while S. bonplandiana can be found in the Sierra Madre Occidental cordillera and the Mexican Plateau. Other minor differences in their ranges can be seen in central New Mexico, far west Texas, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas.
