Salix appendiculata, also known as the large-leaved willow, is a shrub or tree from the willow genus (Salix). It can be found in France, Italy, Central and Eastern Europe, and on the Balkan Peninsula. This plant has a rounded crown and gray-green, dark brown, or red-brown branches. Its leaves are deep green on the upper side and scattered hairy on the underside, with 12 to 15 pairs of nerves. The flowers are arranged in catkins and appear in April and May. The large-leaved willow grows in mountain forests and alpine shrub regions at heights of up to 1900 meters. It is a characteristic species of Salicetum appendiculatae and has 2n = 38 chromosomes. This plant was first described in 1789 and is also known as Salix grandifolia. It is mentioned in various literature, including "Flora of the Woods" and "The New Cosmos Tree Guide".
