The leaves can also be used to make tea and the bark has medicinal properties.
Antidesma bunius, also known as bignay or bugnay, is a fruit tree native to Southeast Asia and northern Australia. It can grow up to 30 meters tall and has large oval-shaped leaves. The plant is dioecious, with male and female flowers growing on separate trees. The fruits are spherical and turn from white to red and then black when ripe. They have a sour taste when immature and a tart but sweet taste when ripe. The tree is often grown in backyards and its fruits are used to make wine, tea, jams, and jellies. The leaves and bark also have medicinal properties. However, the roots of some specimens in Africa are poisonous, and other parts of the plant may also be toxic.
