Adenia cissampeloides is a flowering plant belonging to the passionflower family, Passifloraceae, and is native to tropical Africa. It is a woody vine that can grow up to 25 meters in length and has pale green to gray green stems with spotted markings. The leaves are heart-shaped or square and have smooth edges. This plant is monecious, meaning it has separate male and female flowers that grow in clusters. Its fruits are capsules and typically have one to three per cluster. Adenia cissampeloides was first described in 1849 and was later moved to the Adenia genus in 1897. It is found naturally in African rainforests, swamps, and savannas. This plant has various uses, including traditional medicinal purposes in Ghana to treat malaria, and its leaves can also be cooked and eaten as a vegetable.
