Hypericum undulatum, also known as the wavy St Johns Wort, is a perennial flowering plant found in western Europe and northern Africa. Its name comes from the Latin word for "wavy", referring to the plant's wavy leaf margins. It grows up to 12 cm tall and has narrow stems with black glands. The leaves are elliptic to narrowly oblong and have a rounded apex and undulated margins. The inflorescence is cylindrical and has 40 star-shaped flowers with yellow petals tinged with red. The plant flowers in August and September and seeds germinate in the spring. There are two varieties of H. undulatum, with the majority having undulated leaf margins and reddish flower buds. It prefers wet areas and can be found in non-calcareous fields, marshes, and acidic bogs. The herb is found in western Europe and northern Africa, with one variety occurring only in southern Spain. It typically grows in vegetation dominated by other herbs and can increase in population size with proper management. However, its decline is mostly due to habitat loss from agricultural intensification.
