Croton glandulosus, also known as vente conmigo, tooth-leaved croton, tropic croton, and sand croton, is a weedy summer annual herbaceous plant in the Euphorbiaceae family. It is characterized by its pungent tap root, stellate hairs and glands on its stem and leaves, and serrated or toothed oval-shaped leaves with gland-like structures at the end of the leaf stalk. It produces white terminal flowers and brown capsules with three shiny, grayish-tan seeds. Tropic croton is commonly found in gardens, crops, and lawns, and is particularly problematic in cotton and peanut crops in the Southeastern United States. It can easily be confused with other plants such as Eclipta prostrata and Sida spinosa, but can be distinguished by its unique features. Tropic croton is native to the south-central U.S. but has spread to other regions, and its increasing prevalence has had a negative impact on crop growth. Its ability to release multiple mature seeds and resistance to herbicides contribute to its competitiveness as a weed.
