Acalypha rhomboidea, also known as common three-seeded mercury, is an annual herbaceous plant in the spurge family. Its leaves are diamond-shaped and it can grow up to 60 cm tall. The plant produces small green flowers without petals and has clear sap, unlike other members of its family. It is similar to Acalypha virginica, but can be distinguished by the number of lobes on its bracts. This plant is native to Eastern Canada and the Northeastern, Southeastern, and Central United States, and can be found in a variety of habitats such as prairies, forests, and disturbed areas. It blooms from mid-summer until fall frost and its seeds are a food source for birds and deer. However, it can become a problematic weed in crop fields where certain herbicides have been used repeatedly.
