Atuna excelsa is a flowering plant belonging to the Chrysobalanaceae family and is native to Thailand and the western Pacific region. It was first described in 1822 and has since acquired several synonyms. There are two recognized subspecies, Atuna excelsa subsp. excelsa found in Malesia and New Guinea, and Atuna excelsa subsp. racemosa found throughout most of the species' distribution and introduced to Java. This species is found in various regions including Thailand, Malesia, Papuasia, and the western Pacific islands.
