Xylopia arenaria is a plant species found in Kenya and Tanzania, named after its growth in sandy areas. It is a shrub or tree with papery to leathery leaves and inflorescences with 1-2 flowers. The flowers have 6 petals, 70-200 stamens, and 6-11 carpels. The fruit is oblong and contains up to 3 dark brown seeds. Xylopia arenaria is known to be used in traditional medicine to treat epilepsy. It grows in sandy soil in forests and bushlands at elevations of 30-500 meters. Its pollen is shed as permanent tetrads.
