Annona sclerophylla is a plant species belonging to the Annonaceae family and is native to Cuba. It was first described by American botanist William Edwin Safford, who named it after its hard and rigid leaves. The plant is a bush that can reach a height of 2-3 meters and has crowded branches. Its leaves are oblong and have a length of 3-5.5 centimeters, with rounded tips and a nutmeg-like aroma. The upper surface of the leaves is shiny and hairless, while the lower surface is covered in tawny felt-like hairs. The plant produces solitary flowers on peduncles that are covered in small rust-colored hairs. Its reproductive biology involves the shedding of permanent tetrads for pollination. Annona sclerophylla is typically found growing at elevations of 680-1000 meters above sea level.
