Annona dioica is a plant species found in Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. It was first described by French botanist Augustin Saint-Hilaire, who named it after its unique flowers with two reproductive structures. The plant is a bush that can reach up to 2 meters in height and has oval, hairy leaves. Its inflorescences consist of curved peduncles covered in rust-colored hairs, and its flowers have a diameter of 6.75 centimeters. Annona dioica is androdioecious, meaning it has flowers that are both male and female, or male only, and is pollinated by the Cyclocephala atricapilla beetle. It grows at elevations of 80-1000 meters and blooms in December. The plant has traditional medicinal uses in Brazil, with extracts from its leaves and wood containing bioactive compounds.
