are a popular plant among native North American communities, with the rough-fruited variety being a common range plant in northern Saskatchewan. The delicate flowers hang down and the berries, which are larger than other native fruits, start off yellow and turn red when ripe. They have a fuzzy, velvety texture and were traditionally eaten by the Blackfeet Native Americans. This species is widespread in North America, found from British Columbia to Ontario and south to Arizona and New Mexico, with one isolated population on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. It is a perennial plant that can grow up to 60 centimeters in height and is often found in the same areas as other native fruits such as Saskatoons and chokecherries. The rough-fruited fairybell is also known by other names such as roughfruit fairybells and rough-fruited mandarin. It is a beautiful and useful plant that has been enjoyed by humans for centuries.
