Lilium pyrophilum, commonly known as the Sandhills lily, is an endemic North American species of plant in the lily family. It is found in the Sandhills region of southern Virginia, North Carolina and northern South Carolina. The plant grows to 0.6-1.6 m and produces a rhizomatous bulbous root system. Its long narrow, slightly pointed leaves are arranged in a variable number of whorls around the stem and the yellow or yellow–orange inflorescence is borne on racemes of 1–7 flowers. It blooms from late July to mid–August and is botanically related to Lilium superbum and Lilium michauxii. Observations suggest that the ruby-throated hummingbirds and Palamedes swallowtail butterfly may be involved in the pollination of this flower.
