Lilium martagon, also known as the martagon lily or Turk's cap lily, is a Eurasian species of lily with a widespread native region extending from Portugal to Mongolia. It can grow up to 2 meters tall and has pink-purple flowers with dark spots, although the color can vary. This plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit and has been used in hybridizing. The name "Turk's cap lily" comes from the shape of its petals, and the origin of its specific epithet, martagon, is uncertain. However, it is highly toxic to cats and ingestion can lead to fatal kidney failure, so households and gardens with cats are advised against keeping this plant. In case of ingestion, urgent veterinary attention is required and treatment with activated charcoal and fluids can increase the chances of survival.
