Endiandra globosa, also known as black walnut, is a medium-sized tree found in Australian rainforests. Despite its name, it is unrelated to northern hemisphere walnuts and belongs to the Laurel family. This tree is mainly found in riverine rainforests, growing on rich alluvial soils and moist slopes in subtropical and tropical regions of New South Wales and Queensland. It is considered rare and can be seen in the town of Murwillumbah in New South Wales. The tree has a whitish, grey or brown bark and can grow up to 25 meters tall. Its leaves are broad-elliptic to ovate and have attractive dark foliage. Creamy white flowers bloom between October and January, followed by large, black, fleshy fruits in autumn. The fruit contains a woody seed with attractive veiny patterns and germination is slow but reliable. Roots and shoots appear in November.
