Cryptocarya floydii is a rare Australian rainforest tree found in steep, dry rocky gullies in northern New South Wales and parts of Queensland. It is also known as gorge laurel or Glenugie laurel, named after its type locality near Grafton. This small tree has a dark dense crown of leaves and can grow up to 15 meters tall. Its fragrant pale green flowers bloom from October to November, followed by black shiny fruit that matures from February to April. The tree is named after renowned rainforest botanist Alexander Floyd and is considered rare with a ROTAP rating of 3RCi. Its fruit is mimetic, resembling other fleshy fruits in the area, and provides little nourishment for birds.
