Cinnamomum glaucescens, also known as sugandhakokila, is an evergreen tree found in Bhutan, India, and Nepal. Its fruits can be distilled to produce an essential oil used in perfumery and traditional medicine. This species is diploid and can grow up to 1,300 meters in altitude. It is recognized as an aromatic plant due to its high level of essential oil. Cinnamomum glaucescens has been successfully cultivated and is considered a suitable plant for farming, ranking four out of five in a scale assessing its domestication, cultivation, and social beliefs. The GEF Small Grants Programme has also promoted the cultivation of this plant, mobilizing two indigenous Nepalese communities and amending their local forestry operation plan to include the conservation of Cinnamomum glaucescens. This has resulted in the planting of 13 hectares of the plant in community forests and 6 hectares on private land. The increasing market demand for sugandha kokila oil not only benefits farmers and producers but also encourages conservation efforts. The project has also empowered women by establishing three women-run forest nurseries responsible for growing 30,000 seedlings of sugandha kokila and
