Scrophularia lanceolata, also known as lanceleaf figwort or American figwort, is a perennial herb native to North America. It can be found in western and eastern Canada, as well as much of the United States, excluding the southeastern region. It was previously known as Scrophularia occidentalis in the western US and Scrophularia leporella in the eastern US. This plant has toothed, triangular or lance-shaped leaves and produces clusters of erect or spreading stems. Its inflorescence is a wide-open panicle with hairy, glandular branches and greenish-brown or dull pink flowers. The plant grows in part shade to full sun and can be found in open woods, thickets, and along roadsides. It has been traditionally used to treat swollen glands.

Sow at 4°C for 3 weeks, then increase to 20°C.
Requires Soaking: These seeds need to be soaked in warm water until they swell, which can take 24-48 hours. Seeds that float are usually not viable and should be discarded, along with the soaking water.
Pulpy Coat Inhibits Germination: Seeds with a pulpy or fleshy outer coat need to have this material removed by soaking and rinsing in clean water daily for about a week. The inhibitory substances in the pulp are thus washed away, and germination rates improve.
