Buddleja salviifolia is a large, semi-evergreen shrub native to much of southern and eastern Africa. It typically reaches a height of 4-8 meters and has untidy, drooping branches with grey-brown bark. Its leaves are sessile to shortly petiolate, narrowly ovate to narrowly oblong, and long acuminate to an acute apex. The inflorescences are terminal conical panicles approximately 12x8 cm, with occasional auxiliary heads appearing in autumn. The flowers range in colour from white, through cream and mauve to purple, and have a strong scent. The species is relatively common in cultivation and is moderately frost hardy and tolerant of dry soils. It is used for medicinal purposes, as fuel, for hedging, and for making assegais and fishing rods.
