Buddleja perfoliata is a small shrub that is found only in the dry grasslands of central Mexico, at elevations between 1500 and 2700 meters. It was first identified and described by Kunth in 1818. The shrub has a greyish-black bark and grows up to 2 meters tall. Its leaves are lanceolate to elliptic in shape and covered in a dense felt-like layer. The flowers are yellow and have a scent similar to sage. They are arranged in pairs along the branches and each head contains 30-40 flowers. This species has not been cultivated.
