Buddleja diffusa is a unique species found only in central Peru and northern Argentina, growing on dry hillsides near rivers and creeks at elevations of 1000-1900 meters. It was first identified and named in 1798 by Ruiz & Pavon. This shrub is dioecious, meaning it has separate male and female plants, and can grow up to 3.5 meters tall with yellowish bark. Its leaves are ovate or elliptic in shape, ranging from 3-14 cm long and 2-8 cm wide, and are covered in a white to buff tomentum. The yellow inflorescences are 15-30 cm long with multiple branches and contain 9-15 flowers each. The corolla tubes are 3-3.5 mm long. Buddleja diffusa is not currently cultivated, making it a unique and rare plant species.
