Buddleja auriculata is a type of evergreen shrub that is native to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa. It can be found growing in montane fields and thickets at elevations of 600-2,000 meters. The plant was first discovered by W. J. Burchell in 1813 and was named by Bentham. Its exact date of introduction to western cultivation is unknown, but it was given the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1923. This shrub can grow up to 6 meters tall and blooms from October to December in the Northern Hemisphere. Its leaves are narrow and dark green, while its flowers are small, loose, and off-white with yellow throats. The plant is not very cold hardy and is best grown against a south-facing wall in temperate climates. In the UK, it is often planted to attract red admiral butterflies in late autumn. The shrub can be pruned lightly each year after flowering to maintain its shape. It is part of the NCCPG National Collection of Buddleja and can be found at the Longstock Park Nursery. However, a large specimen was killed during a particularly cold winter in 2010-2011. Propagation
