Nestegis lanceolata, also known as white maire, is a tree that is native to New Zealand. It can be found in lowland and hilly forests throughout the North Island, and is less common in the South Island, specifically in the Marlborough Sounds. This tree can grow up to 15 meters tall and has long, glossy leaves. In the spring, it produces green flowers and small red fruits. The wood of N. lanceolata is highly valued for its strength and durability, and has been traditionally used by the Māori people for making tools, weapons, and digging sticks for food gathering and gardening. It was also used in the construction of storage houses.
