Ligustrum sinense, also known as Chinese privet, is a deciduous shrub native to China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. It has also been naturalized in several other countries, including the United States. The plant can grow up to 7 meters tall and has opposite leaves with a hairy texture. Its flowers are white and its fruit is considered poisonous. There are several varieties of Ligustrum sinense, and it is commonly used as an ornamental plant and for hedges. However, it has become an invasive species in some parts of the United States, causing harm to biodiversity and forest health. The name "Ligustrum" comes from the Latin word for "binder" and was given to the plant by Pliny and Virgil.
